This four-bedroom two-and-a-half-bath farmhouse was built in 1882 on an old stagecoach road that once carried travelers and mail to Canada from New England. The estate’s 66 acres have been turned into a private arboretum; formal gardens take up several acres. The mature trees have created a sheltered microclimate, allowing the current resident to grow nonnative plants like azaleas and rhododendrons. There is a lily garden surrounded by linden trees, and a fall garden with trees chosen for their vibrant autumn colors.
An entryway with leaded glass windows flanking the front door separates the original farmhouse from a two-story addition built in 1973. The living room, part of the original structure, has pine floors and one of three working fireplaces. Across…

Glenn and Nancy Brazeau and the Niagara on the Lake team hosted a grand opening event on Monday, September 14, 2009 with 200+ people in attendance. They toured their clients and friends through their new location on the main street of the historic town and then ushered them to a soiree at "Corks" restaurant located directly across the street where good people enjoyed good food and wine and jazz entertainment. The Lord Mayor and the MPP for Niagara were in attendance and extended their support and congratulations. A big hit at the party was a 1958 Rolls Royce parked in front of the office with Nancy's "SOTHEBY" personal license plates attached. It provided great photo opportunities!

The Sotheby’s International Realty Canada office at 1731 Marine Drive in West Vancouver became host to the Sun Peaks office for a wine and cheese invitational event. Sun Peaks Resort Corporation attended with large displays, including a 10’ X 10’ map of the Resort and donated the grand prize of a weekend getaway for two to Sun Peaks. Our office listings were featured and a flat screen TV rolled the new Sun Peaks promotional video in the front window. The West Van office continued to display our Sun Peaks listings, video, maps, etc. for an additional two weeks, to the end of August! It is obvious that this large family network of Sotheby’s International Realty worldwide is a great benefit to Sun Peaks marketing efforts.

With sustained sales and a steady increase in prices, the Montréal real estate market showed no sign of slowing down in August, according to the Greater Montréal Real Estate Board's MLS® statistics. Sales increased by 9 per cent in August 2009 compared to August 2008, and the median price of a single-family home increased by 6 per cent.
"Because residential property sales generate significant economic benefits, the increases we've seen over the past four months have largely contributed to the economy of the Montréal Metropolitan Area," said Michel Beauséjour, FCA, Chief Executive Officer of the GMREB. All property categories registered an increase in sales. There were 1,674 single-family homes sold in August 2009, a 5 per…

Two Uplands waterfront estates once owned by former NHL players Russ and Geoff Courtnall have each sold for around $6 million, as Greater Victoria's luxury-home sales surge after being battered by the economic slowdown.
It appears that a $6.5-million private sale, shown in land-title records, of 3265 Beach Dr. to a local buyer is the highest residential price paid so far this year in Greater Victoria.
Geoff Courtnall owned the home several years ago and it subsequently changed hands. The assessed value of the 1930 home, with more than 8,000 square feet and several bedrooms, is $7.2 million, B.C. Assessment records show.
Geoff's brother Russ Courtnall, now of…

Looking west from the boardroom in our office, you can just see it: an enormous pit, perhaps 200 feet deep, where the crowning glory of Vancouver's skyline would have been.
Designed by the late, great Arthur Erickson, the Ritz-Carlton's 123 luxury residences would surely have been one of the most prestigious addresses in the city. Fully 58 storeys high, the tower featured a dramatic 45-degree twist from foundation to apex, with spectacular views of the city, the Strait of Georgia and the North Shore mountains.
At least, that was the idea. When the global financial crisis hit last fall, the Ritz-Carlton was one of the casualties. Faced with sky-high…

Canada's national housing agency predicts home construction to make a comeback in the second half of this year and into 2010, however economists say it could be a long time before we see the same building frenzy that has dominated this decade.
Canada Mortgage and Housing Corp. said Thursday it believes housing starts will hit 141,900, of which 68,400 will be single-family detached homes and 73,500 multiple-housing units, such as condos.
CMHC chief economist Bob Dugan said economic uncertainty and lower employment tempered new-housing construction in the first half of this year.
"In the second half of 2009 and in 2010, we expect housing markets across Canada to strengthen," he said in releasing the agency's third-quarter…
