A Run-Away Success: Tobiano Sets Saturday Sales Record
June 19, Kamloops, B.C. — It may be the ultimate recreational property, with a little
something for everyone: horse enthusiasts, golfers, fishers, boaters—even those who
prefer to kick back and enjoy the breathtaking scenery. Tobiano, an 18,000-acre master-
planned resort community overlooking Kamloops Lake, has been gaining notice from
buyers around the world—and last Saturday, in an unprecedented show for the Kamloops
market, 21 Lake Star townhomes were sold totaling $13 million.
“We were thrilled but not surprised,” says Mike Vopni, Sotheby’s director of sales and
marketing at Tobiano. “It is such an extraordinary property to be able to offer—it’s no
wonder that we’re getting calls from across the U.S., Europe and beyond.” In addition to
the nearly sold-out Lake Star townhomes and Bluff Resort lots, Tobiano is releasing two
other townhome projects later this year—Latitude and Summers Landing—as well 40
“equestrian lots” and several “cottage lots.”
Located on Six Mile Ranch—a century-old working cattle farm just 15 minutes west of
Kamloops on picturesque Kamloops Lake—Tobiano will ultimately consist of four
distinctive neighbourhoods, over 1,000 homes, as well as three boutique hotels. The
homes will offer the very best in environmental design, architecture and landscape
planning, with pedestrian walkways and riding paths connecting residents to a golf
course, a 100-slip marina, an equestrian centre, as well as a 40,000-square-foot shopping
village full of cafes, restaurants and shops.
“Tobiano is all about quality resort living,” says developer Michael Grenier of Pagebrook
Inc., who is spearheading the $500 million development with his father, Bill Grenier.
Michael Grenier purchased the Tobiano property in 1996, moving from Toronto to live
there with his new bride. His own Tobiano home is an award-winning example of the sort
of post-and-beam architecture that fits perfectly within the natural surroundings—a semi-
arid desert of rolling grasslands and hills of sagebrush.
An integral part of the Tobiano development is the 18-hole championship golf course—
set to open July 5th and a strong contender for next year’s Golf Digest Best New Golf
Courses. Designed by Tom McBroom, one of North America’s most celebrated golf
architects, the course will be enhanced by an extensive training academy accommodating
players of varying skill levels. “Tobiano is one of the most picturesque properties for a
golf course I’ve ever worked on,” observes McBroom. “The canyons, gulleys and
fissures in the land create surprising shots that are exciting to play, again and again.”
Response to Tobiano to date has been strong, with sales of over $47 million in both
single-family lots and town homes. Near the junction of three of Western Canada’s most
traveled highways, Tobiano is within easy access of Vancouver and the U.S. border, with
frequent daily flights from Seattle, Calgary and Vancouver. For more information, please
