World’s oldest hockey stick has local connection

The world s oldest stick is being auctioned at the Molson Canadian Hockey House in Vancouver during the Olympics.

When Nancy Bailey-Brazeau received an invitation to an event in Toronto from Sotheby's International Realty, she was happy to be included—even before she knew she was going to see the world's oldest hockey stick.

It's not a particularly attractive stick, she says, and she's seen it before, but it has a history that means a lot to her—one she has heard often during family gatherings, and one that has a family connection.

The Toronto event featured an auction by vipthrills.com, and being auctioned was the hockey stick that was carved by her great-grandfather some time in the mid 1850s—thought to be between 1852 and 1856.

Sotheby's International Realty Sponsors Ice Wine Sculpture

On January 23, Niagara-on-the-Lake held its annual Ice Wine Festival closing the main street to accommodate the event.  The street festival was open to the public offering samples of icewine and food provided by 22 wineries and 12 culinary partners.   Jazz-themed ice sculptures sponsored by local business provided a unique photo opportunity for locals and tourists. Hotel Georgia Canadian Flag Wrap

There has been tremendous recent coverage on our Private Residences Hotel Georgia Project - Bruce Langereis, president of Delta Land Development, has wrapped Vancouver's iconic Hotel Georgia in the largest Canadian flag ever made, in preparation for the 2010 Winter Olympics.

Just how big is it? The vinyl building wrap is 32 meters high and 64 meters long -- larger than an Olympic hockey rink -- and it adorns two sides of the hotel now under restoration and renovation.
Langereis joked that he is renaming the intersection of Georgia and Howe streets "Canadian Corner."
The hotel, built in 1927, is undergoing a major renovation and is scheduled to be completed by the end of next year.

Vineyard bounty is not the only lure of the annual fall wine festival

The fall in the Okanagan Valley brings to life some of the region's boldest and most iconic imagery. Symmetrical rows of bountiful vines bursting with blue, red, grey and purple fruit create flowing patterns on the hillsides. Indeed, it's almost impossible to tell which is a deeper shade of blue -- the endless sky overhead or the glittering lakes below.

Add the heady buzz from sampling merlot or pinot gris -- and you might think, "Wouldn't it be great to own a vineyard, sometime?"

1st Annual Town of Niagara-on-the-Lake Charity Golf Tournament

Thursday, October 1st was the Annual Town of Niagara-on-the-Lake Charity Golf Tournament.  The Sotheby's International Realty Canada Niagara team sponsored a hole "closest to the Open House sign" and the winner received two Toronto Maple Leaf hockey tickets at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto.  In the photograph are Alex Falovo who braved the 13 degree weather at the 15th hole and attached SIRC's golf bag tags to all 132 golfers to qualify for the prize, Glenn and Nancy Brazeau and the delighted winner, Ray Hunter.  It was announced that evening that Sotheby's International Realty Canada, Niagara-on-the-Lake branch will be the major sponsor of the tournament next year with all proceeds going towards the fundraising for our new community centre.
