“As I get to know my clientele, I love when they open up to me. It gives me an opportunity to create a portrait of where they are headed, in my mind I write a story of them.”

My parents immigrated to Canada from Croatia many moons ago. Their story stuck with me. It was a story of struggle, adjustment and bravery. It humbles you and you tend to wear other people’s stories if you listen enough.

Luxury is not now about what it once was for me, luxury now is about a feeling, whereas before it was about something material. Luxury to me is happiness, and time. I’m Maryann Kenfelja and I’m a realtor with Sotheby’s International Realty Canada.

Treasures are things that transcend time, so treasures help you to time travel. Objects of sentiment that you capture along the way are things that you can stop and behold, and they do take you back to a different moment or time. I felt like my personal brand suited the Sotheby’s brand, I felt like it was actually one and the same, they deal in treasures and so do I.

Getting to know people better comes from my love of writing. As I get to know my clientele, I love when they open up to me. It gives me an opportunity to create a portrait of where they are headed, in my mind I write a story of them.

I love the idea of motion and movement, I love to run, I love to drive, and essentially I move people for a living. I don’t just move their location, I like to move them emotionally. A home is where everything happens, it’s where you come home for the first time, it’s where you marry off your children, it’s where you break bread together, it’s where you tell each other you love each other.

There’s only a short time in every family where you’re all together under one roof. My family is my greatest treasure. Everybody has their unique idea of luxury. My role is to make that attainable to you.
